£150m Spend: Jose Mourinho targeting these 6 star signings for Manchester United

Manchester United fans will largely be greeting this new week with great excitement in the knowledge that Jose Mourinho is about to replace Louis van Gaal.

And, even before he has been confirmed as manager, The Guardian seems to think it has a decent idea of who Jose wants to bring in to Old Trafford this summer.

They say:

José Mourinho has identified André Gomes, João Mário, John Stones, Álvaro Morata, Mauro Icardi and Ezequiel Garay as summer targets for Manchester United as part of an anticipated minimum £150m spend.

There is little doubt that, having offloaded Robin van Persie, Chicharito, Radamel Falcao and Danny Welbeck in the last two years, that Manchester United are light up top. Morata has been a sensation in Italy and is a known admirer of Mourinho, who overlooked several senior stars to give the Spaniard his first taste of the first team at Real Madrid. Icardi is a wonderful player but as captain of his team, he may well be harder to lure.

Other obvious additions will be in defence and we think that, despite some patchy form over the last year, Mourinho will be desperate to bring John Stones to Manchester United this summer – and what a great, long-term signing he will be.

The midfield will also require some surgery with Bastian Schweinsteiger likely to be moved on and Marouane Fellaini perhaps kicking his last ball in the red of Manchester United.

It promises to be a fascinating summer at Old Trafford. But United have, finally, got the right man for the job. Expect pride to be restored sooner rather than later.
