‘Important person’: International speaks fondly of Liverpool boss and how the team could use him

TFF has spoken much over the last few months about the Achilles’ heel of Liverpool. And we are sure that has to be the defence. They need a new goalkeeper at some stage soon and at least one more central defender if they going to be able to cope with the top teams in Europe as well as those in the Premier League.

And one player who can certainly fill the void has spoken fondly of his old manager for whom he played with great success at Borussia Dortmund.

Subotic is quoted as saying:

“Klopp has been my mentor for nine years, he supported me, encouraged me, had trust in me. With him and Dortmund I had the most amazing time. For that I am forever thankful.

“He was and is an important person in my life and I owe him a lot.”

The 28-year-old centre-back played 36 times for Serbia after his debut in 2009 and scored two goals.

He had eight hugely successful years at Dortmund playing 258 games and scoring 18 goals but suffered from thrombosis in his arm last year and had to end his career at the club.

Just 28 years of age you have to imagine that he would have great value to a team like Liverpool if he was able to completely recover from his illness. Liverpool have a decent defender in Joel Matip but beyond that we think they could do with some serious improvement in that department.

Subotic could be the perfect answer in the short, medium and long term.

Let’s take a look at him in action. Liverpool fans: would this be a player that could improve the first team or the squad? Or should Klopp be looking to get a younger player in who can grow and develop with the team over the next few years?
