3 Wide Men: 5 players that Jose could sign for Manchester United in January

We all know how hard it is to bring truly top talent in to any club in the winter window. The fact that Manchester United aren’t in the Champions League will make their job even harder and we should expect Jose to have his next serial splurge in the summer.

But he will surely have a nibble in January and TFF feels that Manchester United could well head down to the south coast to find a top notch defender after Christmas.

Virgil van Dijk

The Dutchman has been superb since he signed from Celtic and, at just 25, he really fits the bill as a long-term investment.

Van Dijk is a big powerful player at 6ft 4in but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Because the Dutch international (12 caps) has lovely feet, passing ability and composure on the ball too.

TFF feels he must be favourite for a move to Old Trafford in January.

Marco Reus

Reus may prefer to stay in Germany and compete in the Champions League. But, as we saw with Manchester City six or seven years ago, money talks. If Manchester United are prepared to go big they could have a really top winger on their hands come February.

Fabinho

Another who would have to drop down from Champions League to Europa if he moved to Manchester United, but the Monaco right back is a superb talent and would surely be excited by the Mourinho project which is taking shape at Old Trafford.

Antoine Griezmann

Probably a move too far for Manchester United in January as Griezmann is happy in Spain and playing for a club which will fight it out for the top prizes again. But we sense a summer auction for this ruthless finisher who can also play on the wing.

Gelson Martins

Manchester United may fancy a nibble on this 21-year-old Sporting Lisbon winger who has been the subject of transfer speculation recently.

Here he is in action for Cristiano Ronaldo’s old team
