4-2-3-1: Jose’s Manchester United XI?

This one isn’t going to be easy to predict because we have a full summer of transfer business ahead for Jose Mourinho, as he begins the task of returning Manchester United to the top table of European football – which, by the way, we have no doubts that he will.

But let’s give it a preliminary try.

We think that the big summer moves will be to strengthen a Manchester United spine which needs more quality and dynamism.

Jose has always been a big admirer of John Stones and tried very hard to sign him last summer for Chelsea.

Up top we think that Alvaro Morata could answer the call. He once said of Mourinho:

“Mourinho could have chosen some other player, but he chose me and I’ll be grateful to him for the rest of my life,”

The name of Zlatan has also been used even more than usual in the media over the last few days as he has been intensively linked with a summer move to Manchester United. We think that it might well happen.

And if Mourinho can also bring another central midfielder to the club, the team will look far more convincing.

Right wing is also an area of concern but we have a sneaking suspicion that Mourinho will take Memphis under his wing and turn him into a devastating and far more consistent forward. He may also play Marcus Rashford out there at times, to utilise the lightning pace of the adaptable forward.

So here is our first stab at a Manchester United team under Jose.

We would love to hear your thoughts.
