4-2-3-1: Tottenham Best XI vs Saints for 3 tough away points – is this now your strongest team?

Dare we say that Tottenham are spluttering into action after two wins over the last week?

With Harry Kane now returning to full fitness it surely won’t be long before he is scoring most weeks and this could mean that recent ‘normal service’ is resumed at a club which hasn’t quite put the jigsaw together this season.

A tough away trip to Southampton on Wednesday 28th December far from guarantees points but at least Spurs have a week to rejuvenate and go at it all guns ablazing after Christmas.

And that gap in the fixture list means that Tottenham have a good chance of completely ridding their physio room in the meantime.

The only injured players right now are Toby Alderweireld (back spasm), Vincent Janssen (ankle) and Erik Lamela (hip).

It’s way too optimistic to assume that all three will be ready to start. But Lamela and Alderweireld are such important players for this team and TFF would love to see the Argentinian get a run out after a substantial period on the sidelines.

His guile and speed makes Tottenham so much more dangerous up top and his link up with Kane could be vital in the scoring of more goals over the coming months.

So while we aren’t confident he can start – and certainly won’t play 90 minutes – he is definitely in our best XI of this one.

It’s a game that Tottenham must win if they are to keep Manchester United at arms length so they will need pace to get around that excellent Southampton defence.

Here’s TFFs best XI for what should be an entertaining encounter.
