‘Active’ Man Utd serious about signing £44million star

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Manchester United are interested in signing Italian international and Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella.

As per Italian source Calcio Mercato, Atletico Madrid were looking to sign the Azzurri player in the summer but now the Premier League clubs are serious and the likes of Liverpool and Man United are active in the pursuit to lure him.

Playing position and form:

The 21-year-old star is a versatile talent, who can be deployed anywhere in the midfield. However, naturally, he likes to play as a center midfielder. This season in 9 Serie A outings so far, he has netted one goal.

Barella made his senior international debut earlier this month under the management of Roberto Mancini and so far, he has made two appearances for the four time World Champions.

Scenario at Old Trafford:

United have signed several midfielders in the past few summer transfer windows. In 2016, they lured Pogba, in 2017, Mourinho signed Matic and this summer, Fred moved to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk.

They also have players like Herrera, Fellaini and McTominay, who can effectively play in the center of the park. In such a scenario, do they really need to sign another midfielder? I do not think so.

Contract and market value:

Barella’s current contract with Cagliari will expire in 2022 and as per La Nuova Sardegna, he is valued at 50 million euros (£44million).
