Andy Robertson is stalling on joining Tottenham

Scotland international full-back Andy Robertson is leaving Liverpool this summer when his contract expires. Tottenham Hotspur are the favourites to sign the veteran defender, although that move could now be in doubt.

The full-back recently announced that he is ending his trophy-laden nine-year spell with the men from Merseyside. Last summer, the Reds signed a replacement for Robertson in the shape of Hungarian star Milo Kerkez from Bournemouth in a big-money deal.

Recent reports suggested that Robertson had already agreed a contract to join Tottenham, with a wage believed to be around £250,000.

However, it now seems that the Scottish full-back is stalling on the move because of doubts about the North London club’s perilous position in the Premier League table.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team is in 18th place in the table, two points adrift of safety, and facing the very real prospect of suffering relegation to the Championship with just five league games remaining.

If Tottenham do beat the drop, then the North London club are expected to majorly overhaul their squad in the summer, with several high-earning underachieving players set to leave the north London club.

Robertson would be the sort of character who would certainly help Tottenham move in the right direction, as one of the main question marks over the Spurs’ squad this season has been their character.

Plenty of other options elsewhere

Andy Robertson would certainly have other options if Tottenham fails to beat the drop, and the full-back doesn’t make the move to North London. His quality and experience will make him an attractive free agent in the summer.

One of the other clubs interested in acquiring Robertson this summer are the reigning Scottish champions, Celtic. However, the Hoops have a much smaller budget when it comes to wages than most Premier League clubs. Therefore, Robertson moving to the Glasgow club seems unlikely.
