Report – Arsenal could move to sign £70million player

Unai Emery Arsenal

Arsenal are linked with Ghanaian international and Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, who currently finds himself in a complicated situation.

According to Spanish source Mundo Deportivo, the likes of Arsenal and PSG are interested in signing the 25-year-old star and the two clubs could try to lure him in the January transfer window.

Partey’s situation:

The African player was a regular starter for the Rojiblancos last season under the management of Argentine boss Diego Simeone. However, things have changed after the La Liga club reinforced the team in the summer transfer window.

In the current campaign, so far, Partey has made 7 appearances in the league but could only start on 2 occasions. If he does not regular game time in the coming months then he could seriously think about leaving the club in winter.

Arsenal’s situation:

New boss, Unai Emery, strengthened his midfield department by signing the likes of Guendouzi and Torreira in the summer.

Partey can play in multiple defensive positions but naturally he is a holding midfield player and at the moment, the Gunners do not really need to sign a DM. Uruguayan international Torreira has been Emery’s main play breaker this season and in his presence, Arsenal have improved a lot.

Contract and clause:

As per MD, Partey has a release clause of 50 million euros and that figure should not be a concern for Arsenal and PSG. However, back in March, when the midfielder agreed a new deal with the club (until 2023), AS reported that he has release clause of 80 million euros (£70million) in his contract.
