Arsenal: John Terry makes bold claim about Petr Cech

We haven’t always agreed with everything that has come out of the mouth of Chelsea icon John Terry. But he seems to be making a lot of sense with his latest public declaration about team mate Petr Cech.

In the midst of a swirl of speculation about Cech’s Chelsea future (the 33 year old Czech international was ousted from the first eleven last season by Belgian stopper Thibaut Courtois) Terry has suggested that Arsenal would be doing great business if they captured the veteran.

Talksport quotes Terry as saying:

“There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season,” the former England skipper told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.

We have our own long held suspicion that Arsenal would be a far better side if they paid more attention to the defensive areas of the team. While they have some masterful creators, Arsene Wenger’s men regularly struggle against the best opposition, as a soft underbelly is exposed time and again.

Noone can accuse the Arsenal manager of trying to ‘park the bus’ as it were. He has always been a great advocate of attacking football and his current team demonstrates that on most weekends through the season. Arsenal are lovely to watch against the lesser lights in The Premier League.

But the addition of Cech, another solid centre back and a clever, mobile and experienced anchor man would surely take Arsenal far closer to the title next season.

At 33 Cech would be a vital first piece in the jigsaw in this respect. You can see some of his best moments for Chelsea here.

Let’s hear what Arsenal fans have to say about the potential signing of Petr Cech.
