Arsenal linked with one of Europe’s best players

A few years ago Arsenal were very much regarded as a selling club as they continued to run the club with tight belts in order to swallow the debt of moving to The Emirates.

Having bought a couple of £40m stars over the last few years and, as one of the very best teams in The Premier League right now, it would be nice to think that they have finally shaken off that moniker.

They have one of the best managers, squads and stadiums in world football, yet they may still struggle to hold on to their best players, according to recent reports.

The latest to be prominent in the rumour mills are Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, who are both in the last two years of their contracts and both surely expecting bumper pay days.

Both could play for pretty much any team in Europe and The Mirror today reports that Arsenal are already making contingency plans should Sanchez move on.

They say:

Arsene Wenger will target Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus if Arsenal lose Alexis Sanchez

The report states that contract talks with Sanchez are underway but it’s not a forgone conclusion that they will end in success and Arsenal may not be prepared to pay the sort of money that Sanchez could get elsewhere. This is a player who could command £250k per week in England.

Marco Reus would be one of the few players capable of filling the boots of Sanchez, should the worst happen.

He’s a wonderful player who TFF feels is likely to move to another elite club to fulfil his potential over the next few years.

The Germany international has 29 caps and 9 goals for his country.
