Arsenal target ruthless striker – report

Tabloid reports over the weekend suggest that Arsenal will turn their attentions to Edinson Cavani if a move for Jamie Vardy doesn’t come off this summer.

The Sunday Express reckons that Arsene Wenger will make a big move for out-of-contract Cavani to bolster the attacking line if Vardy turns down Arsenal, who triggered his release clause last week.

Exclusive: Arsenal to offer Cavani £120k-a-week deal if Vardy transfer falls through

The report suggests that Cavani, who has racked up over £60m in transfer fees, including a £9m move to Napoli and £48.4m transfer to PSG, has turned down £500,000 a week in salary from China to instead spend his late summer years in The Premier League.

And TFF thinks that he would be a superb marksman for Arsenal. Vardy obviously has more pace but in terms of finesse and consistent finishing ability there is no contest.

Cavani has scored 235 goals in 433 club games through his career at Danubio, Palermo, Napoli and PSG. He has also hit an excellent 32 in 81 games for Uruguay even though he regularly plays in a wide position to accommodate Luis Suarez.

TFF sees Cavani as a similar player to Giroud but just a much better version. He will score goals out of nothing in the tightest of matches and the Frenchman has yet to prove that he has mastered that side of the game.

We believe that he would be a far better signing for Arsenal.
