Arsenal to shave their squad in January?

Arsenal could be about to part ways with defender Carl Jenkinson after a relationship with the club which started back in 2011.

The 24-year-old is said to be of interest to Crystal Palace and British media outlet Sky Sports reports:

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson, according to Sky sources.

The 6ft 1in right back has represented England at all levels and made his debut for England in 2012.

And despite some decent performances for Arsenal in his four seasons at the Emirates he has only amassed 62 appearances and one goal for the club.

TFF feels that he is a good player but perhaps lacks the pace and dynamism to make inroads into the Arsenal team. Even though Spanish international Hector Bellerin is streets ahead in terms of quality and class, Jenkinson could have played a lot of games as cover and in lesser competitions if Arsene Wenger trusted him. But with recent defensive signings like Rob Holding coming in, the writing does appear to be on the wall for a player who spent two seasons on loan at West Ham last year and the year before. The Hammers don’t seem to want the player permanently either though.

We expect him to go on and have a decent career in the Premier League but perhaps he doesn’t tick quite enough boxes for the very top level.

Arsenal fans: is it the right decision to let go of Jenkinson?
