The 21-year-old, who has played 4 times for Japan (1 goal) since his debut last year, was voted as the best young player in the J-League last season and was reportedly very close to sealing a move to The Bundesliga with Augsburg until the deal fell through.
The suggestion in the report is that Arsenal would buy him and then send him on loan rather than immediately trying to assimilate him into the first-team.
The diminutive young forward, who stands at 5ft 7in, has made a big impact in his early career with 14 goals in 42 games last season and 5 in just 9 games this term.
