Arsenal in talks to sign expensive but much needed addition

Actually, TFF thinks that Francis Coquelin would be a decent, ball-playing centre back a la Javier Mascherano.

But with Per Mertesacker ostensibly slower than a snail on Ketamine and Gabriel Paulista clearly not yet trusted to take the brunt of the opposition attacks, Arsenal’s need for another top centre back is long overdue.

So news today that The Gunners are in talks to sign another defensive kingpin of the German persuasion will be music to the ears of many an Arsenal fan.

Sky Sports reports:

Arsenal open talks to sign Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi

The 24-year-old 6ft centre back is of the perfect profile to be a proper signing for Arsenal.

Despite having just a dozen caps for Germany he was in the squad which won The World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and played at EURO 2016.

He’s been at Valencia for two seasons – after three seasons at Sampdoria and three at Everton before that – and been a virtual ever present with 78 appearances and a decent offering of six goals from set-pieces in his time in La Liga.

Whether through pure pride Arsene Wenger hasn’t hitherto heeded the calls of the Arsenal faithful for a top centre back addition. Perhaps he will finally bring in a much needed addition.

And, who knows, maybe he will complete the set and make his club title challengers, by also adding the top striker that the club so obviously needs.

We shall of course keep you updated on any developments with this potential deal.
