Arsenal ready to trigger release clause for prolific 25-year-old

Another summer and another 3 month period of speculation about striker signings. It’s easy to see why some Arsenal fans feel a little as if they are living a groundhog day with their club.

But perhaps this summer is different and Arsene Wenger will make that marquee striker signing that could catapult the team to serious silverware.

We certainly thing that Alexandre Lacazette falls into that category and he has been linked with a move to Arsenal by latest reports.

The Telegraph writes:

Gunners ready to pay £34 million release clause for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette

The 5ft 9in 25-year-old isn’t the biggest but he is explosive and provides the sort of pace and power that Olivier Giroud lacks, but has more finesse in front of goal than Danny Welbeck.

He’s scored once in his 10 appearances for France but at club level he has really grasped the nettle with 23 goals in 44 games last season and 31 in just 40 games the previous year.

The true test will of course come when he starts competing in an elite league. But we can’t see him waiting too long as genuine goalscorers are far more rare than money at the top level of the game.

His profile is perfect for Arsenal. He’s French, he’s lightning fast and he is old enough to make a difference to the first team straight away but still young enough to improve.

Let’s have a look at some of his career highlights so far. Here are all his goals from last season.

Arsenal supporters: is this the top tier striker signing to make a real difference to the team in the toughest games?
