Arsenal: Wenger to meet agents of £45m-rated star

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to meet the representatives of France striker Alexandre Lacazette, after missing out on a deal to bring Jamie Vardy to The Emirates.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is set for a meeting with the £45m-rated Lyon and France striker’s representatives this week after missing out on Jamie Vardy

Vardy signed a new deal at Leicester last week in a move that Arsene Wenger clearly respected despite his disappointment.

But he is still keen to augment his front line with a dynamic hitman and Lacazette is one of the rising stars of the European game.

At 25 Alexandre Lacazette has played 10 times for France and scored the solitary goal as he has often played understudy to Karim Benzema. But his club stats have been more impressive with 92 goals in 229 games for Lyon and 23 in 43 games in the season just past.

His pace, power and explosive finishing ability would surely go down well at Arsenal where Olivier Giroud carries too much of the goalscoring burden and often doesn’t produce in the biggest games.

If nothing else, Lacazette would bring more pace to the attack and offer Arsene Wenger much greater attacking depth.

Arsenal have so far made one major signing with Switzerland midfielder Granit Xhaka joining the club this summer.

It’s a step in the right direction and a tough tackling centre back plus another top striker would surely get Arsenal much closer to where they want to be next season.

Here are some of Lacazette’s best moments.
