According to reports from both German and Spanish media outlets, Newcastle and Germany forward Nick Woltemade is of interest to Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid this summer.
Woltemade has enjoyed mixed fortunes on Tyneside
Having impressed last season for Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, Newcastle shelled out a club-record fee reported to be £65m, plus £4.3m in potential add-ons.
The forward enjoyed a fruitful start to his career and looked set to be a big hit with the north east club. However, since his fast start, his form has been mixed, and he has scored ten goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
In recent games, Woltemade has been playing in a more withdrawn role, sometimes as an attacking midfielder and sometimes as a central midfielder. Reports from the German media suggest that the 24-year-old is unhappy at Newcastle, allegedly due to a change in position, which may be one reason for his perceived unhappiness.
Atletico may need to reshape their attack this summer
This summer, Atletico Madrid may need to reshape their attack. Star Argentinian international forward Julian Alvarez is being heavily linked with moves to Spanish champions Barcelona, English league leaders Arsenal and also European champions PSG.
It seems like Los Colchoneros have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the World Cup-winner, and the club from the Spanish capital are now looking for potential replacements for the frontman, who scored ten goals in the Champions League in 15 appearances, as well as producing four assists.
I absolutely love the bloke, but he’s the least Atletico Madrid type player in the universe. https://t.co/9dtvv8iHVh

There is also a suggestion that former Crystal Palace and Norway striker Alexander Sorloth will be allowed to leave the club this summer. Sorloth has actually outscored Alvarez in La Liga, scoring 13 times, compared to the Argentinian’s eight goals. However, the big forward is believed to be surplus to requirements for next season.
Woltemade is very different in style from Alvarez but has the same profile as Sorloth, so Atletico could well move for two forwards to keep the same level of depth in attack.
