Poor Player: Manchester United agree deal with forward – report

Manchester United are understood to have a agreed a contract with Jesse Lingard which will treble his current salary at the club to somewhere around 100k GBP.

Sky Sports reports this afternoon:

Jesse Lingard has agreed to sign a new Manchester United contract, Sky Sports News HQ understands.

It is understood the 24-year-old will sign a four-year deal and his wages will treble to around £100,000-a-week.

TFF has been really impressed with Jose Mourinho’s selections and signings so far as Manchester United manager.

He’s bought brilliantly with Bailly, Zlatan, Mkhitaryan and Pogba all proving to be hits. What’s more, he has severely limited Marouane Fellaini’s time on the park and, until recently it looked as if Lingard had also been found out by the Portuguese.

TFF can only hope that, for the sake of Manchester United fans, the club is simply keeping his value high by giving him a new contract.

Because, for us, Lingard perfectly illustrates the current malaise at Manchester United. They have a squad full of good players but no great ones.

Lingard drifts through big games without making any sort of impact. Then, every now and again, he will hit a screamer and all is forgiven!

He just doesn’t offer enough going forward – he doesn’t take on his man or get to the byline anywhere near enough and has little end product. Lingard is a hard working professional but he wouldn’t get into the front lines of Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea or Tottenham. And that should tell you all you need to know about the standard of the player.

TFF believes that when Manchester United do return to the top, the likes of Fellaini and Lingard will be remembered as stalwarts of a regrettably fallow period for the club.

Manchester United fans: is Lingard good enough for a top team?
