Fee Agreed: Bad Deal for Liverpool

We have been excited by the arrival of Jurgen Klopp to Liverpool and no one could have expected the immediate upsurge in performances and results, that occurred on his arrival, to endure without serious restructuring.

He’s a top man and a good manager who looks as if he wants to stay for the long-term and rebuild the club in his own image.

But we can’t help but think that it’s a mistake to sell Jordan Ibe. The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool have accepted a bid for the player, which probably means that he’s off.

TFF often argues that quality is everything in football. You can only put 11 players on the field and and ‘decent’ ones won’t cut it at this level. To be a great team you need great players.

The Liverpool boss probably accepts that Ibe is a good player but not a great one in the making. And obviously Klopp has seen him up close and personal in training.

But we think he could have stayed for another season or at least gone on loan to gain experience.

He’s only 20 but he’s already built like a tank. He’s also quick and has good feet. There is so much potential to work with and this kid has his entire career ahead of him.

We come back to good vs great players. Klopp clearly feels that Ibe fits into the former category.

But we feel he could have been a Liverpool regular in time and been a real credit to the team. Time will tell whether he eventually joins the elite level of players.

But it’s a big call for the German coach.

Liverpool fans – are you confident that Klopp got this one right or will Ibe come back to haunt Anfield?
