Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Denis Suarez pending the completion of his medical on Tuesday.
British media outlet Sky Sports confirmed:
Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Denis Suarez from Villarreal, subject to a medical tomorrow.
The 22-year-old has been something of a journeyman in his short career.
He started out at Celta before spending two years at Manchester City in The Premier League between 2011-2013.
But he didn’t get any competitive starts in England and moved to Barcelona before a loan move to Sevilla in 2014.
A transfer to Villarreal followed but Barcelona did the sensible thing. They realised his potential and inserted a buy-back clause which gave them first refusal on many future transfers.
Suarez had a brilliant season last year at Villarreal and played 48 times, scoring 5 goals along the way as they reach the Europa League semi-finals.
With Xavi now gone and Iniesta getting toward veteran status, the attacking midfielder may feel that he has a better chance of first team action this time around.
The capture of Suarez follows Barcelona’s signing of French defender Samuel Umtiti from Lyon for a fee in the region of 25m Euros.
