Best and worst player: Liverpool Season Review

Liverpool Crest

Liverpool have had a really rollercoaster season. They started the campaign looking as if they might make a serious challenge for the title. But how many times have we said that in the past? As has become typical with this club they fell off the pace badly and began to doubt their qualities through the winter months.

After signing a six-year contract in the middle of the season the previously unfathomable notion started being discussed in pubs up and down the land that Jurgen Klopp could actually be close to the sack. So bad was Liverpool’s form that they didn’t seem to be able to find the next goal never mind the next win.

But, ultimately, the season has to go down as a success simply because Liverpool finally kicked into gear and got that Champions League place that they so craved.

This is going to immeasurably improve their chances of signing top players this summer and Liverpool should be able to kick on next term.

They have got some unbelievable players and with the forward line of Firmino, Coutinho and Mane they are always going to cause the opponent trouble.

Best player: Philippe Coutinho started the season like a world-beater and probably possesses the most skill of any player in the side. Sadio Mane was amazing before he got injured and became the most lethal player in the Liverpool attack. But we are giving the player of the season award to James Milner. He was so solid in the unaccustomed position at left back and scored loads of goals for Liverpool from the penalty spot to boot. Barely put a foot wrong all season and has to be seen as a brilliant signing for Liverpool .

Worst player: Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse than Simone Mignolet along comes Loris Karius. He’s had a few decent games here and there but he just looks completely out of his depth in the Premier League. When keepers make big mistakes in big games a lot of them don’t ever recover and we are concerned about the future of Karius at the club. Liverpool surely need to address the goalkeeping situation as a priority in the summer.
