Blow for Manchester United’s transfer plans for Nathaniel Clyne?

Amidst the masses of speculation pertaining to Manchester United transfers this summer, most seem to be in accordance about the idea that Nathaniel Clyne would be the perfect right back addition.

Last summer Louis spent a fortune on the left side of his team with the likes of Rojo, Blind, Shaw and Di Maria refreshing the squad. Now it’s surely time to concentrate off a right flank with peeling paint.

Antonio Valencia has given great, if unspectacular service to Manchester United, but his current inability to beat a man has rendered him less potent as a winger and in defence. Clyne is more solid in the defensive department but also brilliant going forward and he would be our next buy this summer after Memphis.

But The Manchester Evening News reported recently that Southampton are trying to hold on to him:

Southampton have launched a fresh bid to keep Nathaniel Clyne out of Manchester United’s reach.

The club’s executive director Les Reed hopes to convince the England right back that his future remains at St Mary’s, despite Louis van Gaal’s plans to lure him to Old Trafford this summer.

Clyne has played 36 times for Southampton this season and scored 3 goals. His form hasn’t gone unnoticed at international level where he has forced his way in the England side and many believe that he will stay there for many years to come.

FINAL WORD: Clyne is a top level player and, while The Saints are on fire, they will struggle to hold on to him with Manchester United, and possibly others, prepared to pay big money for his services. We still think that a move is likely.

Let’s see him in action. Manchester United fans: perfect signing?
