Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion have unveiled plans to make history by building Europe’s first-ever purpose-built women’s stadium, which will reportedly cost around £75-80m. The project is, of course, subject to gaining planning permission.

According to the Seagulls’ official website, if the project goes to plan, the new stadium will open no later than the 2030/31 season. Initially, the stadium will have a capacity of 10,000, with the ability to expand if and when needed in the future.
Stadium set to be built close to the AMEX Stadium

The club is looking to grow its women’s team and brand by giving them their own stadium to play in, with the club ambitious to push up the Women’s Super League and also play continental football. Reports suggest these plans have been in the pipeline for years.
Although Brighton’s women’s team have played at the AMEX Stadium, they play the majority of their games 20 miles away at Crawley Town’s Broadfield Stadium.
A pursuit-built stadium at Bennett’s Field, near the AMEX Stadium, would attract bigger local support, aiding the club’s attempts to grow. The plan suggests the new stadium will be connected to the men’s home stadium via a bridge, which would provide a stronger link between the men’s and women’s teams.
Potential historic moment for Brighton
Brighton has been at the forefront of innovation in recent years. Building a purpose-built stadium would follow that trend, making it not only the first of its kind in Europe but also the third of its kind worldwide, which would be massive for not just the Seagulls’ but for Women’s football in general, especially in England.
