Brighton have begun their summer recruitment by signing highly-rated young Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna from Swedish outfit AIK Stockholm for a fee in the region of £21.5m.
The 18-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Seagulls and broke the record for the highest fee a Swedish club has received from a sale.
Impressed in Sweden in his short career
The youngster has impressed with AIK Stockholm, having only joined the Swedish club in 2025 from Ikon Allah Football Academy in his homeland. He initially joined the club’s U-19 team, but was quickly promoted to the senior team training after scoring three goals in four games.
In 18 appearances for AIK in all competitions, Yohanna has scored five times, while showing his pace, technical ability and creativity. His appearances for the Swedish team have already established him as a player with great potential.
Yohanna recently received his first call-up to the Nigerian national team. However, AIK decided not to release the winger because he was still recovering from a hamstring injury.
Brighton will be hoping that the versatile attacker follows the same trajectory as some of the other players that the Seagulls’ recruitment team have unearthed in recent years, including midfielder Yasin Ayari, who also joined the Seagulls from AIK in 2023.
Coventry looking to sign Rushworth on a permanent transfer
Premier League new boys Coventry are reportedly looking to seal the £20m transfer of the goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who spent last season on loan at the Midlands club from Brighton.
Rushworth was ever-present in the Championship, as Frank Lampard’s team won the second-tier title.
Reports suggest that Brighton would be open to allowing the former England U-21 international to leave permanently this summer.
The 24-year-old has just a year left on his contract, which means that the Seagulls could lose him as a free agent next summer, so Brighton is likely to be more open to negotiation to avoid losing him on a free.
