Chelsea: Done deal for swashbuckling defender?

There has been a flurry of activity at Chelsea since the end of EURO 2016 and The London Evening Standard reports that another player is on the move.

They say:

Abdul Baba Rahman is set to join Schalke on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea last year for the princely sum of £21.7m. And while he showed some real talent in spurts, he never nailed down a starting place on the left side of defence, which has been marshalled so brilliantly by Cesar Azpilicueta for the last few years.

The Ghana international, who has 18 caps for his country, made just 11 starts in the league last year and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte perhaps feels that he needs to be in the firing line every week to improve his game – circumstances that he clearly can’t offer the player at Chelsea right now.

It’s a quality source with a good ear to the ground on the comings and goings at London clubs so we can assume that this is a watertight story.

Baba has been a popular figure among the Chelsea faithful and they will hope that he returns to show his best form in a year. He certainly has the talent to be a Chelsea regular but needs more consistency to his game.

Let’s see his better moments for the club in his first season at The Bridge. Chelsea supporters: does Baba Rahman have a long-term future at the club?
