Chelsea linked to world-class signing before September

You would have to say that Antonio Conte has done excellent transfer business for Chelsea so far this summer.

Michy Batshuayi made an instant impression when he came on against West Ham and looks like a great addition. And N’Golo Kante already looks as if he has been in the team for years.

But this is a massive summer for Chelsea and it’s easy to imagine another couple of marquee signings before September – particularly in light of how much their rivals have strengthened this summer.

And the latest name on the lips of the media is very exciting indeed.

Sky Sports picks up on a report in Spain:

Chelsea have moved ahead of rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez, according to Sport.

Cesc Fabregas hasn’t been at his best over the last 12 months and has played a huge amount of football for a 29-year-old. Oscar is brilliant at his best but continues to be a mercurial talent who can drift out of whole games at a time. He is yet to find that consistency of a top level player.

And while Rodriguez hasn’t had it all his own way at Real Madrid, there is little doubt that he is an elite level footballer.

At just 25 he has got his best years ahead of him and perhaps now is the perfect time for a change of scenery to reignite his career.

James has played 48 times for Colombia (16 goals) and 79 games over two seasons for Real Madrid (25 goals).

TFF believes that he can be the perfect number 10 and can also play wide if necessary. There is no doubt that he would not only improve the squad but the Chelsea team too.

There are just two weeks left of the transfer window but we feel that some of the biggest business could yet be done and Chelsea look like one of the main buyers at this stage.
