British media outlet, The Metro, reports that Chelsea may be interested signing the 24-year-old Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly ready for transfer talks with Chelsea

Chelsea look to have received a boost in their transfer pursuit of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

And the player is quoted as saying that he is far from certain about his future at Serie A club Napoli after talks over a new contract apparently stalled.

‘Big clubs want to sign me and there is no sign of a renewal with Napoli,’

‘No, I have not talked to [Antonio Conte] but that may be soon. If nothing happens at Napoli, I will start to have contact with other clubs.

The 24-year-old French-born Senegal international has played 6 times for his country since making his debut last year against Namibia, despite overtures from Didier Deschamps at the time.

He moved to Napoli in 2014 form Racing Club Genk and has featured prominently in his two seasons in Italy, playing 39 and 42 games respectively.

Chelsea may well look to add to a central defence which features two veterans in Gary Cahill and John Terry. Chelsea do have Kurt Zouma coming through but he still has some work to do to convince everyone that he represents the future of the club.

Kalidou Koulibaly is fine physical specimen at 6ft 5in but he also has good pace and mobility for one so big.

Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte is yet to complete a major signing for the club since being appointed as manager last month. But TFF expects a big overhaul of the playing staff as Chelsea’s high standards weren’t even close to being reached in what was a particularly turbulent season for the West London club.
