Chelsea linked with mammoth bid

This is surely getting a bit silly now. Chelsea have cashed in on Oscar and clearly have money to spend but they have been linked with a £60m bid for a defender in the latest transfer rumours.

British media outlet, The Daily Express, reports:

Chelsea launch £60m bid for Virgil van Dijk in move to block Man City deal

TFF totally understands the allure of the 25-year-old Dutchman. He’s very impressive and in the air and is a towering presence from set pieces. But he’s also superb with his feet and very composed on the ball – he rarely gets flustered and has been a model of consistency in his time in England and Scotland.

Some would argue that the actual price is irrelevant as long as Chelsea can sign the player and win the title as a consequence. But it is a ridiculously large fee for a defender and we wonder when the bubble might bust in terms of this inflated transfer market.

With all of these rumours flying around the media it does seem ever more likely that the player will be wearing another shirt by February. Because if the interest is serious Southampton will surely end up cashing in as they have done with so many big players over the last few years.

Chelsea fans: ridiculous money for a defender or can he really make the difference in the title surge?
