Chelsea linked with more top quality acquisitions

Chelsea could be among the busier players in the last week of the January transfer window as deals for Alexandre Pato of Corinthians and Matt Miazga of New York Red Bulls are reportedly drawing to a successful conclusion.

But, beyond that, the West Londoners are said to be looking at defensive reinforcements in the summer months according to a generally well-informed London source.

The London Evening Standard divulges:

Jose Gimenez, Marquinhos and John Stones lined up for summer moves

John Stones

Chelsea made at least one well-publicised attempt to acquire the exceedingly composed youngster in the summer months when Jose Mourinho was still at the helm.

At 21 years of age Stones has already forced his way into the full England set up and it would take a brave man not to pick him as a starter for The Three Lions from this point.

The technically excellent and tough tackling defender will attract the interest of many a top club over the next year and Chelsea would be well-advised to get this deal done as soon as possible.

Marquinhos

The PSG star moved from Roma in 2013 and is still only 21. But that hasn’t stemmed persistent rumours about another big move.

Spanish masters Barcelona have been linked more than once and Chelsea would be getting a classy yet chiselled defender who is a safer bet at the back than his current teammate and ex-Blue David Luiz.

He’d be another excellent capture for Roman Abramovich.

José Giménez

Perhaps not as well known as the other two but his reputation is blossoming fast. The 21-year-old Uruguayan, who plays for Atletico Madrid, looks about as tough as they come and he’s so mature for his years that he has already been selected for Uruguay on 21 occasions and chipped in with three goals from his natural position at centre-back.

Giménez looks perfectly suited to The Premier League with a useful balance of guts and skill. You can see some of his highlights here.
