Chelsea make £40m bid

Chelsea clearly mean business in the transfer market this summer. After an unusually turbulent and poor season last term, the deposed champions are looking to spend their way to success under the new management of Antonio.

And one of the latest names to figure is the brilliant Valencia playmaker Andre Gomes.

It seems that he is one of the hottest properties in Europe right now with Real Madrid and Barcelona both credited with an interest this week.

But Chelsea haven’t been scared to go toe to toe with the big boys in the transfer market over the last few years.

The Daily Mirror reports:

Valencia have rejected a bid of £40million from Chelsea for midfielder Andre Gomes.

The 22-year-old Portugal international has played 12 times for his country since his debut in 2014 and has figured at EURO 2016 as Portugal have so far reached the semi-finals.

And he has been a revelation since he signed for Valencia in 2014 playing 77 games and scoring 9 goals.

The interesting thing about Gomes is that he has the elegance and poise of a smaller player but, at 6ft 2in, he has the physicality to cope with the toughest of leagues.

We think that he would be a sensation at Chelsea but, if Conte is eventually successful with another bid, it could call into question the future of Cesc Fabregas, who looked a little fatigued last term.

That said, we are half expecting an unconventional formation next season at Chelsea with perhaps 3 central midfielders in a 3-5-2. This sort of system could easily accommodate both.

Let’s have a look at some of Gomes’ best moments for club and country.
