Another major Chelsea signing close as club agrees personal terms

Chelsea look to be closing in on a deal for Fiorentina left-back Miguel Alonso, according to a well-respected British media outlet.

The Guardian states that personal terms have already been agreed and the 25-year-old will move to Chelsea for in the region of £20.5m.

They say:

With transfer fees in England going through the roof, few eyebrows will be raised about the price tag even though Alonso used to ply his trade for Bolton.

Because this is a player of real pedigree having schooled at Real Madrid. The 6ft 2in left back started out playing for his local club but made a solitary appearance for the seniors before being shipped out to Bolton, where he enjoyed an excellent third season before his move to Fiorentina.

There he eventually blossomed and chipped in with 5 goals in his 74 excellent games for the Serie A club over the last two campaigns.

Alonso looks to have many of the traits associated with top Premier League left-backs – he’s quick and industrious with a good delivery – and his previous experience in England can only help. But he has yet to be capped by Spain at full international level.

His purchase will lead to questions about the continued presence in the first XI of Branislav Ivanovic. Cesar Azpilicueta should take his place on the right which could leave the decorated Serbian to fight it out for a centre back berth in the team.

Although this is a big deal, TFF expects Chelsea to spend a substantial amount more tomorrow as the window finally comes to a close.
