£25m Price Tag: Chelsea’s Next Major Signing?

As Chelsea’s transfer plans fall into place it seems ever clearer that their new manager, Antonio Conte, is focusing on embellishing the spine of the side this summer.

TFF has been very impressed with his purchases so far and we have little doubt that N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi will add real pace and dynamism to a side that looked a little sluggish in spells last season.

And both are young enough to be part of the next long-term Chelsea vintage – Conte is building for now and the future.

So if our theory is correct then we should expect a centre back to join the club this summer.

Chelsea have two able veterans in Gary Cahill and John Terry. Beyond that there is the promising Kurt Zouma but injury has stymied his growth so far.

The latest player to be linked to a move to Chelsea is a La Liga defender of excellent quality. The Daily Star says:

CHELSEA are looking to follow up the signing of N’Golo Kante with Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi.

Valencia have managed to resist mega-money offers for midfielder Andre Gomes but may be forced to sell their coveted 24-year-old, who is valued at £25m.

The 24-year-old German international has played 12 times (1 goal) for his country since his debut in 2014. He’s regularly had to play second fiddle to Hummels and Howedes for Germany but he’s surely destined for stalwart status at international level over the next few years.

Mustafa signed for Valencia in 2014 and has been a great success with 6 goals in 78 games. He’s 6ft tall and solid enough to hold his own in The Premier League, although Chelsea fans may have to be patient to see the best of him as he adapts to a physically tougher league.

Let’s see his best moments in Spain. Chelsea supporters: a decent acquisition if it comes off?
