Chelsea: Odds shorten on sublime playmaker signing according to bookmaker

Chelsea seem intent on strengthening their spine before the window closes in 3 weeks.

But latest reports suggest that they may have another player on their mind. Sky Sports reports this afternoon that:

Riyad Mahrez has been eased to 8/11 from 4/7 to stay with Leicester – he is 6/5 from 7/4 to join Chelsea.

Although there have been strong noises coming out of Leicester over the last few weeks about the player staying with The Foxes, the decision will ultimately come down to Mahrez himself.

And British tabloid, The Daily Mirror earlier stoked the fire by reporting:

Leicester’s title-winning star Riyad Mahrez has reportedly been spotted at Chelsea’s team hotel, sparking speculation he could be set to join the Stamford Bridge club.

And, after winning the Player of The Year award for last season his stock has never been higher.

TFF felt that Arsenal may be a more likely destination for the 25-year-old Algerian international who has 24 caps and 4 goals for his country.

Despite Theo Walcott’s promising pre-season form, most Arsenal fans would love to see Mahrez playing down the right instead.

But Chelsea already have the superb Willian and Hazard for the wide areas. If there is substance in the rumours then perhaps it lends more weight to the idea that new Blues boss Antonio Conte could be about to change the formation for the coming season.

But Hazard and Willian can, let’s not forget, play through the middle as well as on the flanks.

Mahrez is a wonderful winger with magical ball control and the end product that most wide men simply don’t possess.

He scored 18 goals last season and provided as many assists for his teammates. It would be a big jump to move to Chelsea but TFF has no doubt that he would take it in his stride and become a big player for The Blues.

Chelsea don’t seem to have finished their summer spend and perhaps they still have Mahrez in sight.
