Chelsea sending scouts to see talented 23-year-old on Saturday

Chelsea will send their scouts to monitor the progress of Middlesborugh defender Ben Gibson as the Teessiders take on Arsenal this weekend.

The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea representatives will make the short journey across London to check up on a player earmarked for the top.

Chelsea to send scouts to watch Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson against Arsenal as Antonio Conte eyes defensive reinforcements

The 6ft 1in 23-year-old, who plays mainly at centre back but can also operate in the left of defence, has been raising eyebrows with some mature performances this season as his progress continues.

With 7 appearances and 1 goal for Boro this season he has adapted to life in The Premier League brilliantly and perhaps it won’t be too long before the Nunthorpe born defender will be selected for the England squad.

He’s already turned out 10 times for the U21s and scored a goal there too.

The adaptable stopper has had good experience in the lower leagues in the formative years of his career as he went out on loan to the lower leagues.

Chelsea still don’t look like the finished article in defence with John Terry and Gary Cahill in the autumn of their careers.

And while the talent of David Luiz is not in question, he is proving that he is more comfortable and effective in a back three for Chelsea.

So TFF expects Chelsea to add at least two more defenders to their squad in the next couple of windows.
