Report: Chelsea set to complete defender deal

It may not be exactly the news that Chelsea fans were hoping for but perhaps suggests that the club is confident of a big defensive arrival before the end of the window.

Because latest reports in Germany suggest that 1860 Munich are set to complete a loan deal for recent signed Chelsea defender Matt Miazga.

In what may prove to be yet another loanee that never returns to the first team, Miazga’s opportunities in the first team have been sparse to say the least.

He played twice for Chelsea in The Premier League last season after his debut against Aston Villa in April.

That matches the number of caps that he has for The United States international side and there is definite potential here.

But, to play for Chelsea, ‘good’ isn’t good enough. And German news outlet, Bild, states (via The Daily Mail) that at least a temporary deal is set to take place:

Another Chelsea fringe player heading out on loan

This is the time of year when Chelsea fringe players slowly start to leave the club for European loans.
Now USA defender Matt Miazga is set to join the revolving door group.

The Bild report itself states that a permanent deal, for about £4m, isn’t out of the question but that a loan is more likely initially.

We wonder whether Chelsea’s penchant for loaning players out is actually paying dividends.

Even if young Chelsea hopefuls and bargain signings don’t make the grade they usually get sold on for a profit. But The Blues’ extensive loan roster must be draining their resources, at least to a degree. Perhaps we will see a change of tact under Antonio Conte.
