New Link: Chelsea may turn attention to passmaster

Chelsea have been linked with dozens of defenders over the last few months but there is a new name on the lips of the press in terms of Antonio Conte transfers this week.

Because British media outlet, The Daily Mirror, reports:

Chelsea to go head-to-head with Manchester United for Victor Lindelof as Antonio Conte eyes summer swoop

Chelsea have been superb in defence this season but there is still a sense that Conte has put square pegs into round holes with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta filling in at centre back. Adaptable as he is, Chelsea could use more cover in that area of the pitch and with John Terry now 35 years of age, this has to be an area of concern in the squad.

And who better than the superb young Sweden international Victor Lindelof? The Benfica star has made a mockery of his tender age by putting in consistently imperious performances for club and country over the last 18 months in particular.

Still only 22 years of age the 6ft 2in centre back, who can also operate at right back, has become a nailed on starter for Sweden since his debut in 2016 with 11 caps and one goal.

He’s also been a sensation at club level with Benfica having made his breakthrough last season. He played 23 games in 2015/16 and has been an ever present so far this term.

He ticks all the boxes for Chelsea. He’s a powerful and decisive defender who is a great tackler and brave to boot. But where he really excels is in his technique. A little like Rio Ferdinand he is extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and is also a great passer.

Chelsea fans: a perfect signing?
