Chelsea linked with £57m bid for top quality

New Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly looking to Serie A for reinforcements this summer as reports suggest that he will make a huge double bid for Antonio Candreva and Leonardo Bonucci.

The Sun reports:

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte plots double swoop for Italy stars Antonio Candreva and Leonardo Bonucci

Even before Conte arrived Bonucci looked tailor-made for Chelsea in a sort of Ricardo Carvalho way. He’s a canny defender – streetwise and tough. But he also has excellent passing ability as we have seen at EURO 2016 in France this summer.

Manchester United are also apparently keen according to the report but Bonucci’s affiliations to Juventus, the team Conte managed with such success, could give Chelsea the upper hand.

Bonucci, 29, has played 274 times for Juventus over the course of 6 highly successful seasons (including 5 Serie A titles) and scored 16 goals in that time.

As for Candreva he doesn’t always get top billing but he is a highly effective and pacy winger who has been at Lazio since 2012. In that time he has played 191 games and scored 45 times, as well as his regular and quality assists.

Whether it’s these two or others, it’s easy to imagine that there will be an Italian feel about some of Chelsea’s recruits this summer and they must surely be thinking about adding to a central defence which is still underpinned by the veteran stalwart, John Terry, who signed a one year extension earlier this year and will turn 36 in December.
