New Top Target as Chelsea look to do business for prolific forward this month

Chelsea have reportedly turned their attentions to striker Mario Mandzukic, as a deal for Romelu Lukaku now looks almost dead.

The Blues have reportedly been tracking their former star for most of the summer but the latest noises coming out of Goodison Park would suggest that the player is happy to give at least another year to the exciting project on Merseyside.

Antonio Conte has made his feelings known about the need for further investment this summer and Mandzukic is a very good quality player, if similar to Diego Costa.

The Mirror states:

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte wants Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic after missing out on Romelu Lukaku

The 30-year-old striker has been doing the business all his career. He’s a physically powerful player who would have no problems with the physicality of The Premier League.

At international level Mario Mandzukic has scored 24 in 68 for Croatia. And he’s been successful at every club he has represented.

He bagged 63 in 128 games for Dinamo Zagreb before moving to The Bundesliga in 2010 and scoring 20 in 60 games for Wolfsburg. That form grabbed Bayern Munich’s attention and Mandzukic hit 48 in 88 games in a highly successful two year period there.

He then had spells at Atletico and Juventus where he continued to be a striker with a goalscoring ratio af about 1 goal every 2 games.

He would be a solid addition to the Chelsea line up if perhaps a second choice behind Diego Costa.

Let’s have a look at some of his best moments for club and country. Chelsea fans: a wise choice?
