46 Assists: Chelsea want to sign superb playmaker – report

Chelsea are keen to sign PSG playmaker Javier Pastore in a move that could signal the end of the Blues career of Cesc Fabregas.

According to Italian media outlet Tuttomercatoweb, his club will not countenance the sale in the January window but that hasn’t perturbed Chelsea.

Pastore has been somewhat mercurial in his football career with many high and low points. But he has settled in to the PSG side and is now a central figure in the team.

The 6ft 2in Argentina international who has 27 caps for his country (2 goals) since his debut in 2010, has been a mainstay in the starting eleven of the French champions since his move from Palermo in 2011 for somewhere in the region of 39.8m Euros.

He only played 26 times last season, due to injury, but still got three goals and six assists.

This term Pastore has so far played 4 times with one goal and two assists to his name. Overall, he has a whopping 46 assists for PSG over 5 years.

Chelsea’s number ten position hasn’t been held by any one player with much consistency over the last few years. Cesc Fabregas was imperious in his first year at the club but faded last season and looks like an increasingly peripheral figure at the club. Meanwhile, Oscar hasn’t been able to nail down the position either.

And perhaps Pastore is more tenacious, mobile and energetic than the others. As we all know, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte loves a hard working player who moves a lot.

Let’s see some of his highlights for PSG and Argentine. Chelsea fans: an obvious upgrade on Cesc or Oscar?
