Chelsea have sold centre-back Trevoh Chalobah to Como in a permanent deal worth more than £30 million, ending an association with the club that stretches back almost two decades. The 27-year-old has signed a contract with Cesc Fàbregas’ side running until 2031.
The Blues will receive an initial £25.7 million for the defender, plus up to £5.1 million in add-ons, as Xabi Alonso continues reshaping his Chelsea squad before the transfer deadline on the first of September.

Chalobah was born in 1999 and signed for Chelsea’s youth set-up as a nine-year-old, rising through the academy before breaking into the first team. Senior loan spells followed at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient, before he made his first-team debut in the 2021 Uefa Super Cup, a match that Chelsea won.
His Chelsea career went on to total more than 150 appearances in all competitions and he won two Fifa Club World Cups plus the Uefa Conference League during his time at the club. He earned his first England cap in 2025 and travelled to the 2026 World Cup, where the Three Lions finished third.
“Trevoh is an important signing for us and a player who represents the level of ambition we have at this club,” said Fàbregas, whose side secured Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in Serie A last season. He added that Chalobah ‘gives us strength, speed and personality in defence,’ calling him ‘a leader who can raise the level of the team.’

Chalobah, who was briefly Fàbregas’ team-mate at Stamford Bridge, said he was ‘thrilled’ to join ‘an ambitious, rising project’ and was looking forward to working with the head coach again.
Because Chalobah is a product of the academy, his entire fee counts as ‘pure profit’ under the Premier League’s financial rules, which is a boost to Chelsea’s compliance efforts. That may explain the timing as much as anything happening on the pitch, given the Blues are losing an experienced, versatile centre-back from a squad not obviously short of them.
Alonso has made clear he wants to trim his options before deadline day. “We have to be ready… we need to know what it takes to compete in the Premier League,” he said last month. Chelsea are reportedly still looking to move on eight more players before the window shuts.
