Contact made – Arsenal could get key signing done for £13m+

Unai Emery Arsenal

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny suffered a major injury in May and since then, he has not featured for the Gunners. To reinforce the central defense, Unai Emery opted to sign Greek international Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Dortmund in the summer transfer window.

If reports in the media are anything to go by then the north Londoners are interested in signing another center half in the form of Moroccan international and Juventus star Mehdi Benatia.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the likes of Arsenal and AC Milan have already contacted the Old Lady to inquire about the former Bayern Munich defender. It is mentioned that the 31-year-old could command a fee of over 15 million euros (£13m).

The veteran center back has won two Serie A titles with the Bianconeri but since the arrival of Bonucci from the Rossoneri, he has mainly warmed the bench,

In the current campaign, so far, Benatia has only made four appearances in the Italian league and one appearance in the UEFA Champions League.  Therefore, he needs to leave Juve to play regular first team football.

Arsenal have so far conceded 14 goals in 11 league games this season and they do need to strengthen their defense. An experienced player like Benatia will be a key addition.

However, it must be remembered that Koscielny is closing in on returning for Arsenal (Sky Sports). In your opinion, does Emery need to sign Benatia?
