Contact made – Man Utd would be in ‘position’ to sign £133million star

Jose Mourinho Manchester United manager

Manchester United have been linked with Spanish international and Barcelona star Jordi Alba for quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.

Last month, Spanish outlet Sport reported that the Catalan giants have told the suitors that they will need to activate the release clause of 150 million euros (£133million) to lure Alba.

More recently, Mundo Deportivo have reported that Barca have already delayed the contract renewal with Alba and it will not be easy now. Furthermore, it is mentioned that Man United and Juve have contacted that player’s agent to let him know that they would be in a ‘position’ to move in to sign the left back at the appropriate time.

The-29-year-old star is surely one of the best fullbacks in the world and as per legendary midfielder Andres Iniesta, Alba is the best left back in the world (Marca).

The speedy defender is solid at the back and also productive in the attacking third. He has been in top form in the current campaign under Valverde. In 16 appearances in all competitions, so far, he has scored 2 goals and provided 7 assists.

For United, Shaw has mainly started as the first choice left back this season and in 14 games (all competitions), he has scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist under Mourinho.

Alba is better than Shaw at the moment but the England international is 23 and the Spaniard will turn 30 in March.

In your opinion, should United splash the cash to lure Alba?
