We have found it quite alarming how Chelsea’s fear factor has disappeared over the last 12 months.
The Jose Mourinho saga clearly didn’t help matters and his sacking has hindered momentum this season, but even the excellent Guus Hiddink hasn’t been able to restore the power and intimidating qualities of the old Chelsea since he took over team matters at the turn of the year.
So Chelsea fans will probably be happy with the news this week that the fiery and passionate Antonio Conte will be taking charge of the club from next season.
His drive should rejuvenate the club but Chelsea also need to make some serious investment if they want to replace some of the great characters that they have had in their squad over the last decade. And Conte will surely already be planning his player recruitment for 15/16 already.
To that end, the club is already being linked to 3 explosive summer signings after Conte takes charge.
Let’s start with the ever suggestive Daily Star who write:
EXCLUSIVE: Antonio Conte wants to bring £50m Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea
ANTONIO CONTE has told Chelsea to re-sign Romelu Lukaku – and wants a deal done before Euro 2016.
It was certainly one of Jose Mourinho’s more curious decisions to let Lukaku leave Stamford Bridge – particularly with Didier Drogba coming to the end of his career. The Belgian number 9 has a similar game to the Ivory Coast legend, marrying great feet with an abundance of power.
Next up Italian sports media outlet Gazetta World which reports:
Napoli star being eyed by new Chelsea boss
Antonio Conte is already hard at work deciding who will feature for the Blues next season, with Gonzalo Higuain a possible candidate to lead the attack
Higuain has been a success wherever he has played and he certainly looks suited to England with his robust frame, speed of thought and precision. TFF thinks that he would be a success in The Premier League. The Argentina international has scored 32 goals in just 38 games for Napoli this season.
Last but not least The Mirror reports that Chelsea are among a clutch of top clubs who may be keen to sign the superb Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez:
Manchester United and Chelsea are being asked for £60million if they want to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid.
Chelsea fans: who would you choose if you could pick just one?
