Crystal Palace: Medical expected today

Crystal Palce are expecting to conduct a medical today for a defender to stiffen up the back line in readiness for their survival bid in the second half of the season, according to The Daily Mail.

The British media outlet reports:

Martin Caceres is expected at Crystal Palace for a medical today.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after leaving Juventus last summer, which means he does not have to sign before tonight’s deadline.

The 29-year-old Uruguayan defender has played 68 times for his country since his debut in 2007 and scored three goals. He’s been a real stalwart at international level and also a very consistent player for his various clubs.

His senior career started at Defensor in Uruguay but he was quickly spotted in Spain by Villarreal. His career didn’t get off the ground there though and he went out on loan to Recreativo before a big move to Barcelona in 2008.

Two more loan moves followed, to Juventus and Sevilla and he made permanent moves to both clubs in his journeyman career. Perhaps his most consistent and substantial spell came between 2012-2016 when he moved permanently to Juventus and was a regular starter in his first few seasons before moving down the pecking order as The Old Lady to the top of the pile in Europe.

He remains a clever and experienced defender who will surely get starts at Crystal Palace.

TFF thinks that, of all the names being bandied around in terms of defensive additions in January that this is one of the best deals that Crystal Palace could have done.

Crystal Palace fans – is this a good deal for the club?
