Coach says Manchester United superstar needs to ‘get stronger’

Manchester United have enjoyed a return to serial winning in the early days of the Jose Mourinho era and his team has recorded their best Premier League start since 2011.

With Eric Bailly, Zlatan, Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming in their has been a new lease of life for the Old Trafford outfit.

But it would be hugely unlikely for everyone to be on form at the same time and one player who has struggled so far is Anthony Martial.

Top scorer for Manchester United last season with 17 goals and 11 assists for good measure, Martial was one of the irrefutable highlights of the season for the Old Trafford faithful.

But, perhaps due to playing so many games last term and enduring a long summer with France at EURO 2016, Martial has been slow to demonstrate the bewitching ball skills and perennial goal threat of his debut season at Manchester United.

And his international coach, Didier Deschamps, thinks he has a solution:

‘Anthony started the season very early. He’s already played a lot in a system that is slightly different to ours,’

‘He needs to be more consistent, despite his qualities. He can make the difference in a game because he’s a fast and powerful player who can score and assist.

Martial played 49 times for United last term and was often overlooked at EURO 2016 as the likes of Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann stole the show.

Deschamps revealed that fatigue may have played a part in his selection decisions at the tournament:

‘He’s played a lot, he’s the one who played the most last season and that’s why he was a little unfit at the European Championship.’

‘It’s his state of mind. He’s like that so he needs to battle a little with himself. He needs to get stronger in order to maintain his level on a long run.’

With Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford coming off the bench against Hull to cause havoc in the wide areas Martial will feel that he needs to start performing quickly if he is to keep his place in the United side.

But TFF thinks that Manchester United’s strongest XI has to include this brilliant Frenchman and when he starts ticking the whole team could click.
