The perfect addition for Liverpool

Liverpool have been clunky at best so far this season as they have slowly come to terms with the permanent loss of Luis Suarez and the temporary absence of Daniel Sturridge.

Any team in the world would suffer through those absences and the signing of Mario Balotelli hasn’t offset the problem in any way.

Sturridge has finally returned to training this week but it would be foolish to think that he can carry the goalscoring burden for his team alone. And with Balotelli and the other summer striking recruit, Rickie Lambert, not yet doing the business, there may be an unlikely solution.

Because Liverpool signed another brilliant striker in the close season – a player who was one of the stand out performers for Belgium at The World Cup and who forced the more experienced Romelu Lukaku to watch most of the tournament from the bench.

It is of course Divock Origi. He’s on a year long loan with Lille but he has intimated this week that he would be keen to cut short his move and start his Liverpool career in January. He said:

“Brendan Rodgers is in contact regularly. That makes me feel very good and wanted. And although I agreed to stay with Lille until the end of this season, if there was a chance of joining Liverpool sooner I would take it.

“I would love to move to Liverpool sooner rather than later. I am here at Lille, it is fine, they are a good club and they have helped me. But it is also frustrating. It is French football. I can’t wait to be playing in the Premier League because I can now see that it will suit me better.”

We thought it was a poor decision to let him go on loan in the first place. Despite his tender years he showed at The World Cup that he’s ready for top level football right now. He’s got the body of a man and the game intelligence of a far more experienced pro. He’s also a deadly finisher. There is very little not to like about Origi and we think that he could immediately improve the Liverpool squad.

We say get him over ASAP. Liverpool fans: is he good enough to help get the club motoring again?
