Everton close to signing wide man

After a decent season of quiet progress in the Premier League Everton are wasting little to no time in the transfer market this summer as they are reportedly close to signing their first player.

British media outlet, The Daily Mail, reports:

Everton are poised to make Southampton’s Cuco Martina their first signing of the summer.

Everton of course have a brilliant and indefatigable right back in Seamus Coleman. But the unfortunate international was cruelly struck down with a double leg break in March when he was playing for Ireland in a World Cup qualifier against Wales in Dublin and will be out for some time yet.

So while Martina will have a serious fight on his hands in the longer term to be first choice in the team he may expect to get some game time in the late summer and early autumn.

And this is a player that Everton manager Ronald Koeman clearly trusts having worked with the player at his previous club Southampton.

The 27-year-old right-back was born in Rotterdam in the Netherlands but is a Curaçao international of 25 caps since his debut in 2011.

He spent the majority of his career at four different clubs in the Netherlands before moving to Southampton in 2015. Whilst he hasn’t been made on starter in that time he has played decent amount of games and May 15 fifteen appearances for the club last season.

Everton fans – is this a good addition to the squad or should you be aiming higher in terms of player transfers summer?
