Everton in talks with Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg as Ronald Koeman looks to bolster goalkeeping ranks

Since the Dutchman took the Everton job a raft of high profile names have been linked to the club. Axel Witsel is the latest name in the rumour mills but Chelsea are also said to be interested in bringing the Belgium ace to The Premier League.

Maarten Stekelenburg has always been regarded as a safe pair of hands and was linked with a move to Manchester United before Fulham snapped him up in 2013.

The Dutch keeper, who has 54 caps for The Netherlands, went out on loan twice during his stint at Fulham as The Cottagers nosedived into The Championship after Mohamed Al-Fayed sold the club in 2013.

The keeper’s second loan spell was at Southampton last season, where Ronald Koeman himself gave the stopper 25 games in the first team.

Everton fans will be expecting an exciting summer of activity in the market, with French forward M’Baye Niang one of the latest to be linked.

But one of the main targets of the new manager at Everton will be to stave off demand for the stars of their existing squad, including the likes of John Stones and Romelu Lukaku.
