Fee Agreed: Liverpool set to get their man – report

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t messed around in the transfer market this summer and he looks set to do another major piece of business as reports suggest that a fee has been a agreed for the services of Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

Sky Sports reports:

Liverpool agree transfer fee in the region of £25m for Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum

The 25-year-old had a stellar season in an otherwise terrible campaign for Newcastle United and they were always going to struggle to hold on to a player who scored 11 goals in 40 games (plus 5 assists) in their relegation season.

But, financially speaking, it represents a good move for Newcastle who bought the player a year ago for around £14.5m.

The Dutch international, who has scored 6 goals in 30 games for a currently sub-par Holland side, is an adaptable midfielder and forward who can play in the engine room. But he is generally more effective in the more advanced roles where he can play at number ten or on either flank.

If a deal goes ahead, and seems very likely with Tottenham pulling out of the race, he will further embellish a Liverpool squad which has already added Loris Karius, Joël Matip, Sadio Mane and Ragnar Klavan this summer.

Let’s see some of Wijnaldum’s highlights since he came to England. Liverpool supporters: an excellent deal or will he find it hard to get into the first team?
