Five-Name Shortlist for Crystal Palace Job

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have drawn up a five-name shortlist of potential candidates to replace outgoing head coach Oliver Glasner. The Austrian is leaving this summer at the end of his contract.

The Eagles winning the Europa Conference League and qualifying for the Europa League for next season will make them an attractive prospect to many potential candidates.

Iraola is Still Top of the List

Reports from the English capital suggest that Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola is the name at the top of Palace’s list to replace Glasner this summer.

Former Rayo Vallecano boss Iraola did a fantastic job with the Cherries, guiding them to a sixth-place finish and qualification for European football for the first time in their history.

However, Palace are not the only ones eying up the Spaniard’s services. Reportedly, Italian giants Milan have been in talks with Iraola’s representatives about him becoming the Rossoneri’s new head coach.

Italian media are reporting that those talks haven’t progressed, which suggests that the Spaniard could still be willing to discuss the vacant position at Selhurst Park.

Other names linked with the job are former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Getafe boss Jose Bordalas and Lens head coach Pierre Sage, who guided his team to a runners-up spot in Ligue 1 and the French Cup, earning him the Ligue 1 Manager of the Year award.

Palace is Looking to Persuade Wharton to Stay

One of the new head coach’s main tasks may well be to persuade star central midfielder Adam Wharton to stay at the club.

Wharton has earned himself the reputation of one of the brightest young central midfielders in the Premier League. His form has earned him four England caps, although he has been omitted from Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, which was considered by many as a surprise, considering the youngster’s ability.

Wharton’s form hasn’t just caught the eye of the national team set-up, though. It has inevitably drawn the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Liverpool, who are believed to be looking for a new central midfielder.

Although Palace has qualified for the Europa League, Wharton may be tempted by a move to a team playing in the Champions League, such as Liverpool.
